Fall brings cooler weather, colorful leaves, and cozy sweaters. It also brings changes that can affect your dog. Here’s what to keep in mind:
1. Temperature Changes
The weather can swing from warm to chilly in a single day. Short-haired or small dogs may feel the cold more, so consider a dog sweater or limiting time outside on colder days.
2. Leaf Hazards
Leaves may look fun, but wet or decaying leaves can hide sharp sticks, holes, or slippery spots. Keep an eye on your dog during walks and check their paws afterward.
3. Extra Energy Needs
Cooler weather often means more energy! Make sure your dog still gets enough exercise, long walks, playtime, or “boredom busters” like puzzle toys and/or chews keep them happy and healthy.
4. Halloween and Fall Treats
Pumpkin treats can be safe in moderation, but keep chocolate, candy, and certain nuts away from your dog. Costumes can be fun, but make sure your dog is comfortable and can move easily. (Keep an eye out for our annual costume contest details coming soon).
5. Watch for Allergies
Fall can bring mold, dust, and pollen from fallen leaves. If your dog starts sneezing, scratching, or has watery eyes, check with your vet for relief options.
6. Reflective Gear
With shorter days, walks may happen in dim light. Reflective collars, leashes, or jackets help keep your pup safe on evening strolls.
🍁 Quick Tip:
Check paws, adjust food and water if needed, and keep exercise consistent. Fall is a great season for outdoor adventures!! Enjoy!
