Yeti Dog Chew is a hard cheese that is all natural and contains no chemicals, no preservatives, and no additives. This recipe has been enjoyed by the people in the Himalayan region of Nepal for centuries. The product is a yak and cow milk based hard cheese that is now a favorite amongst dogs. The cheese flavor of the chew is very alluring, and the hard texture of the product makes it a perfect and a long lasting dog treat.
Yeti Dog Chew is a traditional hard cheese also known as Churpi/Durkha. It consumed by the people of Himalayan regions of Nepal, who have known about the nutritional and dental benefits of yak/cow milk for centuries. It is produced in the mountains at more than 15000 feet, using the ancient recipes of the Himalayas.
Our process begins with the collection of yak and cow milk harvested in the Himalayan regions of Nepal. The yaks and cows graze on medicinal plants and herbs above 15,000 feet free from modern day pollution.The milk produced is high in nutritional value as a result of their grazing on these plants.
In the next phase the milk is pasteurized to ensure product safety and uniformity. Once the milk thickens after consistent beating and stirring the butter is extracted, making the Yeti Dog Chew low in fat. Next, the remaining milk is heated again until white cheese starts forming to remove the lactose and make the hardened cheese.
After extracting the cheese content, it is transferred into a burlap sacks to drain out any remaining water and whey residue.The sack is then compressed for few days with a locally made apparatus, made of large stone, wood and bamboo. No contamination occurs to the product in this duration due to the cold climate. Next, the wrapped cheese is cut into pieces and dried under the sun or a wood fire oven a for several days to transform into hard chew.
Cleaned, Cut and Inspected
These hard chews are brought into our processing unit in Kathmandu, where every piece of chews are first tested for quality and then cleaned using a mixture of lime juice and water. Strict hygiene standards are maintained to prevent any contamination to the chews. Next, the chews are cut in 4 different sizes using food grade equipment which are sorted and stored in order to maintain good quality
For the final step the chews undergo a final drying process in order to absorb all the moisture, before the chews are packaged and exported to USA, Japan and China.
It is difficult for dogs to digest milk in its raw form, but once milk is processed into cheese it is digestible. Since the curdled cheese is separated from the milk, most of the fat and lactose is removed from the cheese, lactose is the primary reason for indigestion. Only a small percentage of dogs that consume Yeti Dog Chews go through loose stool or gas and that always resolves.
Cheese is a nutrient packed food that contains protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and selenium. Most cheeses tend to be high in calories, but if consumed in moderation they are not fattening. Cheese is great for protecting teeth from cavities. In comparison to milk, cheese is pretty low in lactose so it's rarely a cause for an upset stomach. However, if your dog faces any health issues due to cheese, discontinue its consumption and consult your vet.
Yeti Dog Chew is best within two years, as long as it's kept away from moisture and kept at room temperature. However, if you see signs of mold growth, and patches of fibrous white or bluish green spots on the chew, then we recommend to not feed your dog. When a small piece is left over from the chew, it can pose a choking hazard for your dog. Simply take the remaining piece and heat it in the microwave for 45-60 seconds, and it should puff up to twice its size. Once it cools, feed it to your dog for a crunchy treat!
